It is said that traveling makes one modest. You begin recognizing what a tiny place you occupy in the world. My upcoming ride is not to escape life but rather life not escaping me. And to complete my random collection of quotes I shall tell you that man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore. Inspired already?
Frankfurt is an international place with halfe an dozen languages spoken around you in the subway. Still you get to know the ‘originals’ of the city such as ‘Eisenbahn Rainer’, the beerbellied oriental dancer at Zeil or the guy with the bicycle full of fur (he has a matching coat and car as well). On my frequent walks from Sachsenhausen to the city center i bothered my friends via whattsapp an up to date picture of Frankfurts skyline usually from the very same spot at ‘Eiserner Steg’. Just like the one below.
Looking back there are many great moments I can look back at. There are all those great people I met at work in the automotive industry. Highly skilled, motivated IT nerds just like me. Almost all of them. I learned a lot about myself, my personal strengths and weaknesses. If there is one thing I learned than the fact that you never know what battle the other person is fighting right now. A bad system will beat a good person every time. Supervisors are no exception and I carry no grudge at any of them. Over 2 years time I built up my mental escape route. I knew I could trust myself and my skills to just quit and do this one thing that I always wanted. Ride Unbound was born.
Leaving my loved ones
Things are getting very real these days. The moment I will say goodbye to some and kiss goodbye someone are getting very close and I know that it will hit me hard. Nothing can prepare you for that.
I will leave Frankfurt friday 31.3. for austria where I have another two weeks to prepare my motorcycle, finish the visas and keep my fingers crossed.
